HYDERABAD: STPP accuses MQM of attacking its workers

HYDERABAD, April 4: The chairman of the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Dr Qadir Magsi, has alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement under the patronage of the government has launched an unannounced operation against STPP workers in Karachi. Speaking at a news conference at the press club on Monday, Mr Magsi, who is also the president of Ponam, Sindh chapter, said the MQM could not tolerate unprecedented response of the people to Ponam’s strike call on March 31 and it unleashed a reign of terror against party workers in Karachi.

He said for the last 10 years, the MQM had been claiming that it was trying to promote peace in Sindh and following the policy of non-violence but it appeared that it was bent upon provoking ethnic riots.

He said the Sindh chief minister had dismissed revenue minister Imtiaz Shaikh for tampering with revenue records.

He charged that in Malir, 70,000 acres of land had been given to builders by the MQM and when STPP workers exposed these dubious deals, they were being harassed.—Bureau
