HYDERABAD: Local people want jobs in LPG plant

HYDERABAD, April 11: Residents of Deh Shah Bukhari staged a sit-in outside the main entrance of the Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited which produces liquified petroleum gas to protest denial of jobs to the local people in the company and emission of poisonous gas from the plant. The sit-in was organised by Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Junejo), Hyderabad.

Participants of the rally, which was brought out from the Mohammad Khan Bagrani village, raised slogans against JJVL management. JSM’s divisional coordinator Hyder Bhutto said that demands of the people were simple, legal and moral which related to checks on emission of poisonous gas to protect human lives and appointment of locals in the project.

The JJVL management claimed that given the nature of plant the question of emission of poisonous gas simply does not arise because the entire project is covered under Environment Impact Assessment conducted by Sindh Environmental Protection Agency. About jobs for local people, the company claimed that in the existing strength of employees majority of them were purely local people.
