DADU: Protests against registration of case

DADU, April 20: On the call of Citizen Action Committee, a complete strike was observed in Manjhand, Sann, Lakha and Khanote towns on Tuesday to protest against registration of a case against 72 people. The Manjhand police, on the complaint of local Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Akbar Ali Joyo registered a case for removing the MQM flag and breaking the furniture of the party office in Manjhand town two days ago.

Shops and bazaars remained closed in Sann, Manjhand, Lakha and Khanote towns in protest against registration of the case.

Hundreds of people in Sann, Khanote, Lakha and Manjhand towns staged a demonstration on the Indus Highway as a result of which the vehicular traffic remained suspended for one hour.

They were led by Citizens Action Committee leaders Manjhand, Pir Jan Mohammad, Qaimuddin, Allah Bachayo Memon and Gaji Bux Khoso, who said that no one had attacked the MQM office, nor the MQM flag was removed. They said the case was registered against 72 people as and act of revenge.

They threatened that if case was not withdrawn and police officers responsible for registering it were not removed, they would continue protest.

Akbar Ali Joyo told Dawn that some 72 people attacked the MQM office, removed party flag and broke the furniture.
