KHAIRPUR: MQM accused of duplicity on Sindh issues

KHAIRPUR, Feb 4: People's Party Parliamentarian MPA Qaim Ali Shah has said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement is not serious on the issues and concerns of Sindh.

Talking to journalists here on Wednesday, he said the MQM was propagating a lot over issues of Karo-kari, unemployment, Thal canal, Kalabagh Dam and development of Sindh, but doing nothing.

Mr Shah said the MQM had important ministries and Sindh governorship but it could not deliver because it maintained double standards on issues of the province.

He said the MQM talked against the Sardari system but it was working with a chief minister who was a big Sardar of Sindh. He said the PPP wanted to bring a proper and effective law against Karo-kari by introducing a bill in the Sindh Assembly.

Mr Shah said the MQM's stand on the National Finance Commission Award, Kalabagh dam, Thal canal and creation of employment opportunities in Sindh was not clear. He alleged recent appointments of lecturers were done under the influence of Sindh governor instead of the Public Service Commission.

Referring to Nawab Shabir Chandio's defection from the PPP, he said it would cast no shadow on the party as many landlords had left the party since the Gen Ziaul Haq's regime. "With their flight, the party has strengthened" he added.

He said the irrigation officials and police had become party and were involved in victimizing the Awam Dost Panel Nazims in Khairpur district.

PIR PAGARO: Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) president Pir Pagaro has asked his disciples to educate their children, especially girls. He was speaking at a traditional gathering of his followers on Eid day in Pir-jo-Goth on Tuesday.

Mr Pagaro also advised the people to desist from performing marriages of minor children as he said such marriages did not last for long and could lead to Karo-kari killing.

He regretted that some people were not marrying their daughters so that their family property was not divided.

Referring to unemployment, he said the youths should join the Pakistan Army as job opportunities were quite limited.

DIES: A man, Zahid Khaskheli, 20, who was injured a couple of days back in an armed clash between two groups in Talpur Wada, died on Tuesday in a Nawabshah hospital.

INJURED: Two motorcyclists were injured in a collision with a trailer in Chondiko town on Friday. The injured - Moharram Ali Bhambhoro and Ghulam Rasool Khaskheli - were taken to the Khairpur Civil Hospital.

Residents of the town caught the driver and handed him over to the police.
