GUJRANWALA: Gujranwala jolted by earthquake

GUJRANWALA, Feb 14: An earthquake jolted the city on Saturday. Report said that people came out of their houses because of earthquake which started at 3.34 pm and continued for a few seconds.

No loss has been reported till the filling of this report in the evening.

Traffic problem: A 4.5km race organized by the district administration caused a traffic jam on the GT Road when the traffic police restricted the movement on GT Road from the Rawalpindi Bypass intersection to the Old City Railway Station and diverted all kinds of traffic to the service road here on Saturday.

Sources said the district administration had arranged the race from Gulshan Iqbal Park to Jinnah Stadium.

The race was to start at 10am, but the traffic police restricted the movement on GT Road some two hours earlier. As a result, the commuters including patients, government officials and traders faced a lot of problems.

Meanwhile, students of schools and colleges participated in the race and the winners were awarded prizes at Jinnah Stadium, where a musical programme was also arranged.

DACOIT NABBED: A mobile phone led to the arrest of an alleged ringleader of dacoits who had injured an ANF assistant director's father, Haji Rafiq, during a robbery bid in Model Town a few days ago.

The accused had left behind their shoes, a jacket and a mobile phone in the house. Police traced the ringleader by his mobile phone and arrested him from Muridkey. He was identified as Tanvir Ahmad. A police party is conducting raids for arrest of the other accused.
