ARD anti-Musharraf campaign continues

HYDERABAD, Feb 14: People's Party Parliamentarians activists, under the banner of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy, continued their protest for the second consecutive day at district headquarters of the interior of Sindh on Saturday.

In Hyderabad, the PPP activists set up a protest camp outside the press club and raised slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf and in favour of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

The activists came in groups from different localities of three talukas of Hyderabad.

The protesters included MNAs Syed Amir Ali Shah Jamote and Shagufta Jumani and MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgari.

DADU: Hundreds of PPP activists held a protest demonstration outside the press club against Gen Musharraf.

They were led by MNA Rafiq Ahmad Jamali, MPA Marvi Mazharul Haq, former MPA Qazi Shafiq Ahmad Mahessar and Dost Ali Jaiser.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said they would continue their struggle against what they called undemocratic government and policies of the president.

The protesters also observed a token hunger strike outside the press club.

KHAIRPUR: MPA Nawab Ali Wassan led a procession taken out by the PPP in connection with the anti-Musharraf campaign.

The procession started from the Wassan House and after marching through the Station Road, Phool Bagh and the Panj Gulla Chowk reached the hunger strike camp set up at the Chatti Chowk.

Women and children also participated in the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Wassan blamed the Sindh government for poor law and order situation, unemployment and price hike in the province.

He said the country-wide protest movement would continue till the restoration of a true democracy in the country.

He said the army was running the government and there was no political government in the country.

Mehreen Bhutto, Khurshid Abbas Dashti, Syed Abid Ali Shah, Shahid Bhambhan, Manzoor Brohi and others also spoke on the occasion.

MIRPURKHAS: PPP MNA Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani has said the country cannot be politically strengthened by implicating popular leaders like Ms Bhutto in different cases.

Talking to party activists at a protest camp, he said government's claims of economic progress were false as poor people were committing suicide.

MNA Syed Qurban Ali Shah, Shamim Ara Panhwar, Mohammad Siddiq Memon, Haji Noor Hassan Chandio, Anwar Rajar, Syed Mazhar Shah and Sindh Pakistan Muslim League-N joint secretary Abdul Majeed Rajput participated in the protest.

They said the government had failed to provide basic amenities and rights to the people.

NAWABSHAH: PPP activists continued their protest against the government for the second day.

The protesters, led by MNA Dr Azra Pechuho and MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio, demanded the release of Asif Ali Zardari.

SHIKARPUR: Activists of the PPP staged a sit-in at the Mirani Eidgah outside the press club.

PPP central executive committee member Qazi Hafizur Rehman, Naseer Ahmad Lodhi, Lala Liaquat Pathan, Barkat Bhutto, Mohammad Paryal Mari and Syed Irfan Ali Shah were among those who participated in the protest.

They also observed a token hunger strike.

The PPP leaders criticized the rulers for making amendments to the Constitution and trying to roll back the nuclear programme.
