HARIPUR: Woman axed to death; man shot dead

HARIPUR, Feb 28: A married woman was axed to death, while a Wapda official was shot dead allegedly by a colleague in the Kangra grid station here, police officials said on Saturday.

Police said that Yasmin, wife of Sher Rehman, was attacked and injured by a man identified as Abdul Rehman with an axe in Khalabat Township here. She was removed to the DHQ hospital, where she died. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.

Wapda lineman Banaras Khan was shot dead allegedly by a watchman with his official rifle in the 132-KV Kangra grid station.

The police said that Noor Zaman opened fire on the linesman, injuring him seriously. He was taken to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad where doctors pronounced him dead.

SHOP LOOTED: Unidentified burglars looted an electronics shop here on Friday night. The shopowner, Khalid Mehmood, said burglars had broken into his shop and decamped with five new TVs and an audio deck.
