GILGIT: Boy injured in clash

GILGIT, March 12: A teen-age boy was hit by a stray bullet in the Amphary locality on Friday during a clash between two groups, police sources said.

The injured Abdur Rahim, son of Fazal Mehmood, a resident of Konodas, was a new settler belonging to the NWFP. He was hit by a bullet in his belly during scuffles but it was not clear who actually shot at him, police officials said.

Gilgit district police chief Mohammad Mustafa told Dawn that it was a clash of some boys and not a sectarian confrontation.

Sources said some youngsters were proceeding towards Basin locality after offering the Friday prayers in a Suzuki when a clash between them and another group of youngsters occurred.

Tension gripped the city after the incident as it involved youths belonging to two different sects.

Police said they had lodged an FIR and sent teams to arrest the culprits involved in the clash.

Sources said Mazahir Hussain filed a complaint with the police that his petrol pump was fired upon by some people.
