US NGO confers award on Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, March 20: A US based non-governmental organization has conferred an award on the President Gen Pervez Musharraf in recognition of his contribution to peace.

The NGO, Search for Common Ground, established in 1982, is involved in conflict prevention and resolution in various parts of the world.

The NGO confers annual awards on leaders in acknowledgement of their efforts towards conflict resolution and peace building.

According to a press release, the former US President, Jimmy Carter, South Korea's Kim Dae Jung, North Korea's Kim Jong II and former US secretary of state, James Baker, are among the recipients of the Search for Common Ground Award.

The award was received by Mohammad Sadiq, the deputy chief of mission, Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, on behalf of the President. Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, the official thanked the NGO for the award.

He said President Musharraf was a man of peace. The President has presented the alternate vision of enlightened moderation for the Muslim world in general and Pakistan in particular.
