BAHAWALPUR: PPP deserter gets ruling party ticket

BAHAWALPUR, March 27: Mr Tahir Cheema, former Chishtian tehsil Nazim and a PPP deserter, has been owned by the ruling coalition as its nominee for the NA-190 (Bahawalnagar-III).

Chishtian returning officer and ADSJ Khalid Mahmood on Saturday awarded him the bicycle symbol.

Tahir Cheema and Ms Shahida Sattar, wife of late Mian Abdul Sattar Laleka, were in the race for the PML-Q ticket. Hectic lobbying was reported from Lahore and Islamabad for this ticket during the past one week.

Shahida Sattar who is determined to contest the byelection, was allotted the symbol of 'fan'.

Others five candidates were allotted following election symbols; Mian Muhammad Ali Laleka (PPP, arrow), Pervez Akhtar (car), Dr Mian Ihsan Bari (MMA, book), Shahid Akram (PML-N, tiger) and Muhammad Latif Ansar Sial (Scooter). The polling will be held on April 14.

PML-Q candidate Mr Tahir Cheema is the younger brother of Mr Tariq Cheema, District Nazim, Bahawalpur, who led PPP deserters which included members of parliament and a number of nazims.

In bargain he got ticket for his brother. - Correspondent
