LARKANA: No-trust move against Nazim passed

LARKANA, April 6: The convener of the Dokri taluka council Dokri on Tuesday declared that a no-confidence motion tabled against taluka nazim Aijaz Junejo had been approved by a majority vote on Tuesday.

The no-trust move was tabled in the council by Aftab Ahmed Abbasi, Gada Hussain Abro , Sikandar Brohi and others. The taluka nazim and his supporters had remained absent from the council on the voting day and termed the session illegal.

The convener presided over the council meeting amid tension and 11 votes were declared to have been cast favouring the no- confidence motion. Naib nazim of the Larkana district council Nazeer Ahmed Bughio said that the move violated the rules of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance.

He said two members of the union council Badah-II and union council Yaro Lakhir, whose cases were pending in the Sindh High Court, had been allowed to cast their vote. He said that he had told the convener of the Dokri taluka council that he was violating rules but he had paid no attention.

HE said that everything had been done "under duress", which was "unlawful and illegal." The district council, in its special meeting held on April 1, had rejected the no-confidence motion against the taluka nazim, he said.

"Once the district council rejects the no-confidence motion, the taluka nazim is immune against any such moves," he said. The move was totally uncalled for and wrong.

Meanwhile Imamuddain Sariyo and other naib nazims, who supported the taluka council nazim, said in a press statement issued on Tuesday that the voting was illegal.

They accused Sindh Revenue Minister Altaf Unnar of supporting the taluka nazim's opponents. He said that the taluka nazim Aijaz Ahmed Junejo would file a petition in the Sindh High Court, Mr Bughio said.
