GILGIT, May 15: At least six policemen, including a sub-divisional police officer, and students were injured in a clash between students and police on Thursday in Chilas, 120kms south of Gilgit, police sources said.

They said a group of students, of different schools, were protesting against the inclusion of reportedly controversial material in the Urdu textbook of 10th class.

The sources said the students gathered in Chilas Bazaar, headquarters of Diamer District, and they later turned violent and pelted the police with stones.

They chanted slogans against the education ministry and demanded removal of the controversial material from the syllabus.

"The sub-divisional police officer of Chilas, Malik Ayaz, five constables and some students were reportedly injured in the clash," the sources said.
