GUJRANWALA: Robber shot dead in 'encounter'
GUJRANWALA, May 29: A robber was shot dead in an encounter with police while four others escaped near Ahmadnagar on Saturday.
Reports said landlord Nasir Shahbaz was on his way home at Dhalla Chattha village when five armed men stopped him and snatched cash and other valuables.
They were fleeing with the valuables when a team of Ahmadnagar police station signalled them to stop, but the gangsters opened fire. The police returned fire, killing one of them instantly.
A rifle was recovered from the deceased, whose accomplices managed to escape.
sialkot tragedy: A local anti-terrorism court adjourned the hearing of judges' murder case until June 5, over-ruling the plea of counsel for the accused that a decision should be taken on the bail plea of former SHO Zulfiqar Ali Virk, former Sialkot jail assistant superintendents Raja Mushtaq Ahmad, Ghulam Sarwar and others before the high court takes up the case on June 3.
The complainant, Advocate Ghulam Abbas Bukhari, father of slain judge Shehryar Bukhari, has moved the Lahore High Court in this connection.
SENTENCED TO DEATH: A local court handed down death sentence with a Rs300,000 fine to Amir Mansoor and seven-year imprisonment to Ijaz Shah in a murder case here on Saturday.
According to prosecution, the convicts killed one Amin in Naushera Virkan on Aug 12, 2001, over an old enmity.
The police had earlier found the convicts innocent following an "investigation" and booked around half a dozen other people.
The court took up the case on a complaint lodged by an eyewitness, Muhammad Javed and acquitted half a dozen other people of the charge of murder.
