HYDERABAD, June 25: Sindh animal husbandry director Dr Sarwar Shaikh has said that the development of dairy farming in Sindh needed more attention.

Speaking at the two-day training workshop "livestock health and dairy farm management" on Thursday, he said that the dairy farming was a profitable enterprise.

The workshop was organized by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority at the conference hall of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said that about 500,000 cows and 600,000 goats were sold in Karachi on the occasion of Eidul Azha but share of Sindh was only 20 per cent. He said that the rest of animals were brought from Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP.

Mr Shaikh invited prospective investors to visit model cattle farms established by the Sindh government.

He said that besides dairy farming the entrepreneurs could also invest in the animal husbandry which too was a profitable business. He said that the Thari breed of animals provided the best meat and milk and added that Karachi was the biggest market for both these essential commodities.

He said that there was a great demand for dried milk too. He said that the SMEDA was publishing a book on the subject which would provide useful information to the dairy farmers.

Dr Shaikh said that there was no animal disease which could not be controlled.

The president of the chamber, Emad Siddiqui congratulated the SMEDA for organizing a training workshop on such a important subject of livestock health and dairy farm management.

He said that the SMEDA in developmental activities could not be over emphasized. He said the SMEDA Sindh general manager Aijaz Majeed, like other cities, had offered full support of his organization to business community for introducing the bus service.

He said that the Sindh government had also extended 30 per cent concession in starting bus services.

Ramesh Kumar, Aslam Parvez Umrani and Syed Kamran Haider also spoke on the occasion.

NAZIM: City taluka nazim Moinuddin Shaikh has stressed the need for construction of one of the most important link road of the city connecting Latifabad with Hyderabad city.

He said that delay in the construction of Makki Shah road had created innumerable difficulties for the people.

In a statement on Friday, he urged the district government to give priority to the construction of Makki Shah road.

He said that in the absence of this road, frequent traffic jams for hours together were witnessed at the Haider chowk.

He called upon the district nazim and DCO to start the construction of the Makki Shah Road without any delay.
