HYDERABAD: Wasa criticized for insanitation
HYDERABAD, July 3: A large number of residents of Latifabad taluka blocked the Fatima Jinnah road in protest against theaccumulation of sewerage in union council-7.
UC-7 Nazim Ibrahim Chishti led the protest.
The protesters also staged a sit-in outside the district nazim's office and demanded that sanitary condition of the area be improved.
They raised slogans against EDO works and services Habib Memon who is also the managing director Water and Sanitation Agency.
Talking to this correspondent, Mr Chishti said that Moti masjid area and several parts of Ayub colony faced many problems.
He said that residents were not supplied clean drinking water.
He said that the water supply to these areas was not regular and once water was made available it was always mixed with filthy sewerage water.
He said that a girl, Naila, had suffered serious injuries after she fell in the gutter.
Latifabad Taluka Nazim Abdul Jabbar Khan rushed to the spot and talked to EDO Habib Memon, deputy managing-director WASA Shamim Ahmed and Nazim Ibrahim Chishti.
Mr Khan and Mr Chishti met with the district Nazim and informed him about the situation in UC-7.
The district Nazim assured them that the problem would be solved after the release of governor's grant of Rs500 million.
The protesters then called off their protest.
