SIALKOT: 8 killed in accidents

SIALKOT, July 24: Eight people were killed in three road accidents in different parts of the Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Five people were killed and 25 others received serious injuries in two fatal road accidents in Daska tehsil.

A speeding bus (LHP-3886), packed to capacity, was going to Sialkot from Gujrat. Near Saahowala on the main Sambrial-Sialkot Road, it rammed into a roadside electric poll. Three people - Muhammad Sharif, Khalid and Shahbaz of Bholla Moosa village died instantly while 12 others, including women and children, sustained critical injuries.

The second incident also occurred on Daska-Sambrial Road near Kotli Noonan village where an overloaded bus (LHJ-8933) overturned and plunged into a ravine. The fast travelling bus was heading towards Sambrial from Daska. Irfan Ghani and Qaiser died on the spot while 13 passengers suffered serious injuries. The injured were admitted to Sambrial, Daska and Sialkot hospitals in critical condition.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Three people were killed in an accident on the National Highway (KLP Road) on Friday night.

Motorway police said a wagon (MNZ-3165) collided with a trailer due to speeding and then crashed into a tractor-trolley near Mianwali Quraishian. Wagon driver Shahid Jatoi and passengers Rashid Ahmad and Munir Dashti died on the spot.

The wagon conductor was taken to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in serious condition.

The bodies have been handed over to their families.

Driver Shahid was a resident of Gulshan-i-Usman, Rahim Yar Khan.
