MULTAN: Low mango export

MULTAN, July 31: The Mango Growers' Association has observed that several official departments have failed to implement the policies announced by the government for the betterment of the agriculture sector.

A meeting of the MGA was held here with its president Zahid Husain Gardezi in the chair. The participants discussed mango production, marketing and the problems being faced by the growers.

They said on one hand the prices of urea fertilizers had been shot up and, on the other, the fertilizers beneficial to the orchards had become unavailable in the market following a reduction of Rs 100 for each bag of DAP fertilizer by the government as a part of the 'Kissan Package.'

The MGA meeting also expressed concern over reduction in mango export this year compared to the previous years' and held the government institutions responsible for failure on this account. It was observed that the mango growers could not get appropriate return of their produce due to less export this year.

It was announced that the association would now publish a quarterly newsletter to keep the mango growers informed about its activities and modern research on mango production and quality.
