SHEIKHUPURA: Three troops drown in Ravi

SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 7: Three troops and a civilian drowned in the river Ravi near Dhana village, some 36 kilometres from here, on Saturday afternoon.

It is learnt that nine army soldiers and a civilian were travelling in a wooden boat in river Ravi. The soldiers were on a plantation campaign on low land area to develop forest. The boat capsized in the middle of the river as a result of which four of them drowned. They are; Muhammad Shafi of Bhani, Hawaldar Abdul Latif, Hawaldar Banaras Khan and Lance Naik Abdul Rahman.

The bodies of all the four people have been recovered from the river. The bodies of armymen were sent to Kharian while that of Shafi was handed over to his family. The remaining soldiers swam to the river bank.
