SHEIKHUPURA: Nankana turmoil Lawyers protest arrest of colleagues
SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 2: The bar associations of Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib on Saturday observed an impartial strike by boycotting court proceedings to protest detention of the Nankana bar president and senior lawyers among others.
Nankana bar president Rana Ali Asghar, senior member Rai Amin Bhatti, senior lawyer Barkat Ali (also a former MPA) and Citizen Welfare Society President Abdul Hamid Rehmani were arrested on Friday on the charge of instigating students to attack Gurdwara Janam Asthan.
The lawyers suspended their daily proceedings and stayed in their chambers.
Talking to newsmen, Sheikhupura bar president Mazhar Iqbal and secretary-general Rana Tanvir condemned the detention of their colleagues and described the police action as illegal.
They said the Nankana lawyers were being victimized only to exact revenge of contesting bar and union council Nazims' elections against Tehsil Nazim Mumtaz Shah's group. They held Mr Shah responsible for spoiling the peaceful atmosphere of the city.
The demanded the president, the governor, the chief minister and other government higher-ups to intervene in the matter and withdraw the detention orders as soon as possible.
KILLED: A woman was clubbed to death by two persons, one of who had proposed her, on her refusal at Borh Baath village on Saturday.
Reports said Allah Ditta asked Manzooran Bibi to marry him, but she refused. Infuriated at the refusal, he along with Rashid clubbed Manzooran Bibi till she died.
Farooqabad Saddar police have registered a case against the two.
