FAISALABAD: 73 councillors to testify against tehsil Nazim, others
FAISALABAD, Oct 9: Seventy three councillors have decided to give documentary and verbal evidences against city Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema and two senior officials in inquiry conducted on the orders of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) about the misappropriation of funds and misuse of powers.
A TMA source said here on Saturday a former councillor having good influence on the members 'due to his wealth' gave a green signal to his close associates for the formation of an 'opposition group' against Mr Cheema and his companions.
He claimed that these members were fed up with the Nazim after withdrawal of developmental funds from their respective areas.
He said the members were invited by the former councillor to a dinner where it was decided that they (members) would testify against the Nazim and two officials.
The NAB had started an inquiry against the Nazim, the TMO and the TO (finance) for their alleged corruption and misappropriation of funds.
The source said Iqbal Sadozai, director-general (inspection), and Dr Shahid Bilal Yousaf of the local government and rural development have been appointed inquiry officers. They would visit the TMA on Oct 13 and 14 for recording the statements of councillors.
Some councillors had alleged that they had embezzled huge funds, awarded contracts to favourites and launched development schemes in selected areas of the city.
MURDER MYSTERY: Satiana police claimed to have solved the murder mystery of three people and declared the incident as 'personal grudge'.
A police spokesman told newsmen on Saturday that accused Shahbaz Bhatti and Usman had been arrested and confessed to killing Yousaf, Sher Muhammad and Ghulam Muhammad of Chak 90 GB.
