HYDERABAD: Road blocked in protest against police

HYDERABAD, Oct 17: Transporters blocked the Hyderabad bypass road and the Badin bus stop for about three hours here on Sunday to protest against police torture of a driver.

The bus and coach drivers parked their vehicles on the by-pass road and raised slogans against police.

When the news reached the Badin bust stop, the bus owners and drivers stopped plying their buses and coaches. A long line of vehicles was witnessed on the bypass road.

A senior police officer reached the place and held negotiations with the bus owners after which the drivers called off the protest.

It has been learnt that a couple of policemen have been detained at the Bhitai Nagar police station.

Traffic police had chased a vehicle driven by Khursheed as he did not stop it when signalled to do so. Later, he stopped his vehicle near a petrol pump on the bypass road and was given a thrashing by police.
