HYDERABAD: Crackdown on illegal meat shops
HYDERABAD, Oct 17: In a crackdown on meat sellers, officials of the TMA city, with the assistance of police conducted raids on illegal meat-shops in Liaquat Colony, Quaidabad, Ghaushala, Pinjra Pol, Hussaini Chowk, Paretabad and Pakistan Chowk localities.
According to witnesses, the butchers ran helter-skelter and the municipal staff seized a large quantity of meat, which was being sold without the stamp of the health department of the city taluka.
The meat was produced before the city nazim, Mr Moinuddin Shaikh, who released it on a categorical assurance of a senior office-bearer of Al-Quresh Meat Merchant Association that in future no meat seller would slaughter any animal in his home or sell it to customers without certification of the meat health department of the taluka.
Heavy penalties were also imposed on the meat sellers.
PROTEST: The Society for Human Awareness and Development staged a rally outside the press club on Friday against the acts of terrorism in Sialkot, Multan, Karachi and Lahore.
Led by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan officials Aftab Chaudhry, Sooba Bhatti and Samuel, the protesters carried placards and banners inscribed with different slogans.
They demanded that the government should arrest the perpetrators of heinous crimes. They said even the worship places were not safe.
They appealed to the government to take effective measures to protect the life and property of people.
