HYDERABAD: Shopkeepers, vendors fined for overcharging
HYDERABAD, Oct 20: Deputy district officers who have been delegated powers of special magistrate imposed fine amounting to Rs30,150 fine on account vendors and shopkeepers during a drive against profiteers here on Tuesday.
A fine of Rs7,600 was imposed on six fruit sellers in the Hyderabad city, Rs5,200 on three vegetable sellers, seven fruit sellers, two milk sellers and one kiryana merchant in the Qasimabad taluka, Rs2,350 was recovered from one vegetable seller, four fruit sellers and two others in the Tando Mohammad Khan taluka, Rs4,000 was recovered from two vegetable sellers, two fruit sellers and four other shopkeepers in the Hala taluka and a fine of Rs11,000 was imposed on one butcher, five vegetable sellers, five fruit sellers and 16 other shopkeepers in the Tando Allahyar taluka for charging high rates from consumers.

RALLY: Activists of the Mini Taxi Workers' Union staged a rally on their vehicles here on Tuesday to protest against firing on its president and general secretary by extortionists and hoodlums.
Speaking on the occasion, the union leaders accused investigation officer Qadeer of playing a partisan role and called upon the RPO to transfer the case to an honest and impartial officer.
