HYDERABAD: 73 profiteers booked

HYDERABAD, Oct 23: Cases were registered against 73 vendors and shopkeepers and Rs46,760 were recovered from them for charging high prices on commodities in the district.

A spokesman for the DCO office said on Saturday that 38 shopkeepers were challaned with recovery of Rs19,260 on Oct 21.

He said that Rs2,400 were recovered from one butcher, three vegetable sellers, four each fruit and milk sellers in Latifabad taluka, Rs8,950 were recovered from one each butcher and milk seller and two each vegetable, fruit sellers and other shopkeepers in Tando Mohammad Khan.

He said Rs2,860 were recovered from two vegetable sellers and one fruit and one milk seller and two other shopkeepers in Matiari taluka.

About Rs5,050 were recovered from four each vegetable, fruit milk sellers and other shopkeepers in Hyderabad rural taluka.

He said on Oct 22, 35 shopkeepers were challaned and fined for charging high prices against government fixed rates.

He said that Rs7,800 were recovered from eight butchers in Hyderabad city taluka.

He said DDOs who had been delegated powers of special magistrate were vigilant and paying surprise visits to different parts of the district.

The spokesman for the DCO office advised the people to identify and communicate information about overcharging to the area magistrate.
