HYDERABAD, Oct 26: A supplier of explosive material was killed and two others, including an ASI, received burn injuries when an explosion took place in the car they were riding in the Jhirk area of Thatta district on Monday evening.

The man killed was identified as Gul Mohammad Daedano.

ASI Javed Hayat Leghari of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell and car driver Abdul Majeed, who received 100 per cent burn injuries, were admitted to the civil hospital's burns ward.

Mr Leghari told his colleagues in the hospital that suddenly the rear portion of the car caught fire and by the time they got out of car they were completely engulfed by fire. Soon there were two successive explosions in the car and Mr Daedano could not disembark from the car, an ASI quoting Mr Leghari told this correspondent.

Mr Daedano used to supply explosives material to coal mines in the Dadu district and he was doing this business without licence until last year.

Reports said the ASI had invested some amount in the business with Mr Daedano. However, on Monday Mr Daedano did not disclose to the ASI that he was carrying explosive material in the car to be transported to some area in the Thatta district.

Earlier on August 26, 2003, the defunct Crime Investigation Cell of the investigation wing had arrested Mr Daedano for possessing 300 kilograms of sulphur gun powder, 100kgs of sodium nitrate powder, 203kgs of black carbon, 434 coil stick and 49 safety fuses. The cell had booked him under section 286 of PPC, punishable with six month imprisonment and fine, despite the fact that the circumstances warranted that the case should have been registered under section 5 of the Explosive Substance Act, 1908, punishable with imprisonment for up to 14 years.

Mr Daedano had then been released and he had started his business. Reports said he had obtained licence from the department concerned for the Dadu district and not for Thatta or Hyderabad.

He was also required in another case registered at the Pinyari police station after a huge consignment of sulphur was seized by police from a goods transport company which was said to be owned by him.

BAIL: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, on Tuesday, granted bail to a man and a woman in a Hudood case in a sum of Rs100,000 each.

Accused Zahida Chandio and Aslam Gujjar were booked by the Sakhi Pir police on the complaint of the sister of Zahida's husband. In her FIR, dated May 18, she alleged that Zahida eloped with Gujjar on May 9.

However, Zahida had already filed a suit in Tando Adam on May 14 for dissolution of her marriage on the ground that her husband had forced her into immoral activity.

Nonetheless, Aslam was arrested on June 4, while Zahida was remanded to Darul Aman on June 1. She was arrested on June 19 and remanded to jail.
