SUKKUR: College building plan okayed

SUKKUR, Oct 30: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim has approved the plan for new building for the Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College in the city.

This was stated by the chief minister's adviser on health, Mr Faisal Malik, while speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement here on Friday.

He said that 75 acre land of the Sindh Auqaf department had been visited by the chief minister during his visit to the city.

He said the construction work would soon start.

He said Sukkur was the third biggest city in Sindh and the government was committed to solve its problems.

He said the health department would soon launch an awareness campaign about hepatitis A, B and C and Polio.

He said the civic authorities had failed to discharge their duties in Sukkur and there were large-scale complaints about the supply of contaminated water which was causing diseases.

MNA Nisar Panhwar criticized the opposition for raising hue and cry on what he called "a non-issue of uniform".

He said that these people had accepted Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan and Zia ul Haq in uniform but they were now campaigning on the issue.

He said the MQM was committed to the masses and it would never compromise on their rights.

MQM Sukkur zonal in-charge Azhar Iqbal Baig said MQM chief Altaf Hussain had personally been in touch on civic problems of the city and he had announced usage of Rs150 million MNAs/Senators development funds for meeting the water supply problem of the city.

The reception was attended by DCO Abdul Qadir Mangi, District Naib Nazim Iqbal Dawood, EDO health Dr Agha Ashfaq, Taluka Nazim Pano Aqil Ali Gul Mahar, MPA Yousuf Munir Shaikh, nazims and naib nazims of different UCs of the city.
