HAFIZABAD: MPA, brother in murder case

HAFIZABAD, Nov 1: A local MPA, his elder brother, brother-in-law and a gunman was booked on Monday for opening fire on unruly mob, killing a man and injuring four others on Sunday.

Umair (4) was burnt alive near an illegal petrol sale point on Madhrianwala Road when fire erupted near the shop of one Akbar Ali on Sunday night. The area people extinguished the fire for the fire brigade could not reach the spot in time. However, the owner received serious burn wounds while his shop was also burnt.

The angry mob started raising slogans against the TMA and started pelting stones on nearby shops. After sometime the unruly mob proceeded to the TMA office through Jalalpur Road and smashed window panes of several hospitals and shops on the way. They also damaged furniture of TMA office and scores of shops.

Later, they raided the hospital of MPA Dr Muzaffar Ali Sheikh on Chowk Farooq-i-Azam. They threw stones and attempted to storm into the hospital but the security guard resorted to aerial firing to disperse the processionists. After an hour, the angry mob again raided the hospital and raised slogans against the MPA for refusing to admit the injured. At this, the security guard opened fire on them which resulted in the instant death of Babar and injuries to Malik Nadeem, Malik Iqbal, Manzoor and Rai Zaheer Abbas.

It was learnt that the MPA had asked the people to take the injured to the DHQ Hospital as it was a police case.

Receiving information, the District Nazim and SP along with police contingent rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. The District Nazim also ordered an inquiry into the criminal negligence by the TMA fire brigade.
