GUJRANWALA: 27 MMA men freed in circus fire case

GUJRANWALA, Nov 2: A local anti-terrorism court No.1 acquitted 27 MMA activists when two witnesses refused to identify them and changed their statements in circus fire case here on Tuesday.

Reports said Sabzi Mandi police booked about 200 workers of MMA, including MNA Qazi Hamidullah, his son Mufti Kafaitullah, Jamaat-i-Islami district senior vice-president Hafiz Hamiduddin Awan, and arrested some of them. Later the court accepted the bail pleas of arrested activists.

Complainant Ijaz Ahmad, the circus manager, and two witnesses Bakhati Rehman and Noor Muhammad did not identify the accused and changed their statements.

CELL PHONE FORFEITED: The additional sessions judge forfeited the cell phone of an ASI here on Tuesday and later handed it over him on payment of fine.

Reports said Garjakh ASI Qutabuddin entered the court when judge Bushra Rehman forfeited his mobile. The court later handed it over him when he made Rs100 donation to a mosque and produced the receipt. The court had banned mobile phones during hearing.
