SUKKUR: Medical college gets first principal

SUKKUR, Nov 4: Dr Abrar Ali Shaikh has taken over as the first full-fledged principal and project director of the Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College.

This was stated in an official press statement issued here on Thursday.

SMC FUNDS: An amount of Rs7,781,034 has been utilized so far in the district from school management committee funds out of the total sanctioned amount of Rs150,946,741 during the year 2003-04, according to a press statement issued here on Thursday.

Speaking at a meeting, DCO Abdul Qadir Mangi said Rs5,444,900 scholarship funds had also been distributed in the district during the period.

The DCO directed the education officers to utilize their energies for the betterment of people with proper planning and vision.

He directed them to ensure proper monitoring of SMC and scholarship funds and negligence of any sort in this regard would not be tolerated and cases of negligent would be referred to the anti-corruption establishment, he warned.

The DCO also held a meeting of the steering committee of the education sector reform assistance and directed the officials to ensure best teacher's award to the deserving teachers.

PROTEST: Passengers and drivers of buses and trucks staged a protest sit-in on the National Highway near Moro on Tuesday night after being robbed by a group of armed bandits.

The bandits blocked the highway near Moro, robbed passengers and drivers of cash, wristwatches, mobile phones, ornaments and other valuable items and fled.

Later, the looted passengers and drivers staged the protest sit-in for an hour.

In the meantime, police reached there and assured the protesters of early recovery of looted items, on which they lifted the highway blockade.

KILLED: A villager was killed in an armed clash between two groups of villagers in Talib Ujjan village near Kandiaro on Tuesday night.

A matrimonial dispute prevailed between the two groups of the Ujjan community which led to the clash.

As a result, Habibullah, 25, son of Abdul Ghaffar Ujjan, was seriously injured and shifted to a Nawabshah hospital where he died.

Abdul Ghaffar has lodged an FIR with the Kandiaro against Bakhshan Ujjan, Ali Sher Ujjan, Miskeen Ujjan and two others.
