HYDERABAD: Teachers warn of movement
HYDERABAD, Nov 11: The district chapter of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association held a general body meeting at the Muslim Science College here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the central vice-president of the association, Prof Khadim Khoso.
The meeting accused the bureaucrats of the Sindh education department of working against the interests of college teachers and education.
A spokesman for the association, Prof Anwar 'Sagar', said 28 college teachers attended the meeting.
Prof Khadim Khoso alleged that anti-education bureaucrats were intentionally undermining academic activities.
He said if the notification about already accepted demands of college teachers was not issued before Eidul Fitr, they would launch a protest movement after Eid.
Prof Mashooq Baloch said the denationalization of educational institutions was indeed a national issue and college teachers were protesting to save the national assets.
Prof Rafique Bhatti said the meeting of the departmental promotion committee had already been held and demanded that the notification about promotions from grade 17 to 18 under the four-tier formula be issued without a delay.
The meeting adopted several resolutions demanding an end to denationalization of educational institutions, convening of departmental promotion committee's meeting for promotion of grade-18, 19 and 20 teachers.
The meeting demanded that 400 vacant posts be filled through promotions and move-over cases of grade 19 teachers be decided without delay.
After the meeting the teachers also staged a protest demonstration at the college gate.
