KHAIRPUR: Growers protest against water shortage

KHAIRPUR, June 3: A large number of tail-end growers of Daraza Minor and Abul Wah took out a procession in Qaisar Sahani village near Ranipur on Sunday against acute shortage of irrigation water.

Talking to newsmen, representatives of the growers deplored that they were not getting their due share of water.

They alleged that the irrigation officials were selling water to influential landlords, which they said had created an acute shortage of water at the tail of the waterways.

They said that due to the shortage of water their crops had dried up.

They said that irrigating land through tube-wells cost Rs400 per maund of wheat and added that no one was ready to buy their wheat at that rate.

Meanwhile, growers of Dewan Minor also took out a procession in Halani on Sunday against water shortage.

The protesters blocked Halani-Khanwahan link road for one hour by staging a sit-in on the road.
