HYDERABAD: Protest against Kalabagh dam

HYDERABAD, Jan 1: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Zain Shah group) observed a token hunger strike and protest day on Saturday in protest against Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal projects.

They wore black armbands and raised full-throated slogans against the projects.

They observed a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club.

Talking to reporters, the central general secretary of the Mahaz, Mansoor Khaskheli, said Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal projects had been rejected by people.

He said formation of water committees by the government was a fraud with Sindhis.

He said Sindhis would resist construction of water projects, what he claimed, were aimed at diverting Sindh's share of water.

He urged the United Nations, European Union and other international forums to take notice of flagrant human rights violations in Sindh.

MIRPURKHAS: A token hunger strike was observed by activists of the JSM outside the press club.

Those who observed hunger strike include Roshan Mangrio, Ali Hassan Chandio, Jani Lodo, Sarwar Lodo, Gul Mohammad Brohi, Paryal Lodo, Lamni, Mandoost Brohi and Badlo Kolhi.

They said it was first phase of party's campaign against what they called ant-Sindh water projects.

Activists of the JSM also observed hunger strike in Thatta and Nawabshah.
