Two journalists killed in Wana

WANA, Feb 7: Two journalists were killed while another was injured when some unidentified masked men opened fire on their van in front of the Wana hospital at 7:40pm on Monday.

Several journalists had gone to Sararogha to cover a story regarding the peace agreement signed between Baitullah Mehsud and the law enforcement agencies stationed at Wana. While they were returning from there, some masked men opened fire on their vehicle near the Wana hospital as a result of which three, Allah Noor Wazir of AVT Khyber, Amir Nawab, correspondent of The Nation, and Anwar Shakir, a stringer of the AFP, were badly injured.

All three were taken to the Wana hospital where Wazir and Nawab succumbed to their injuries.

Meanwhile, in a joint statement, office-bearers of the Khyber Union of Journalists, the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation and the Peshawar Press Club condemned the incident and demanded of the government to have the culprits arrested immediately.
