GUJRAT: Law to check pesticide prices soon

GUJRAT, Feb 9: A new law is under study by the provincial government to keep a check on the prices of pesticides and fertilizers.

This was stated by provincial Agriculture Minister Arshad Khan Lodhi while addressing a convention of farmers with district Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain in the chair.

The minister said the provincial government had adopted some revolutionary steps for the prosperity of the farmers. He said that it was for the first time that any government had given farmers the economic security by introducing the crop insurance policy.

Mr Lodhi said the government had not only reduced the ratio of mark-up on agriculture loans but it had also been providing the farmers soft-term loans. He also gave away turbines and bulls to the farmers which were being won by them in the horse and cattle show.

Agriculture EDO Shahid Rasheed Awan and the District Nazim also spoke on the occasion.

VISIT: A two-member delegation of the British High Commission on Wednesday visited the district to view arrangements for the visit of their foreign minister Jack Straw on Feb 15.

Mr Straw had accepted an invitation of District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain. The delegation comprised Michael Helpan and Simon Smart.
