HYDERABAD: Supply of polluted water decried
HYDERABAD, Mar 5: Residents of Eidgah colony in union council-10 blocked a section of the Auto Bhan road on Saturday in protest against supply of polluted water to their area for several days. They were led by UC Nazim Mohammad Yousuf Qureshi.
The protesters including women blocked the road for two hours and raised slogans against Wasa. They claimed they were being supplied filthy water as water supply lines got mixed with sewerage lines.
The residents said they should be provided drinking water from a separate water supply line as four inch diameter line was available near Tayyaba Mosque which could be connected with their supply line.
The managing director of Wasa rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that they would be provided water through a separate connection, identified by them.
EDO: EDO health Dr Shafqat Memon could not resume work in the office as his offices remained locked. It was learnt that former EDO Dr Nazar Junejo did not hand over keys of locks to office staff. He was not available in the city for the last three days.
According to Dr Memon he had not been able to contact Dr Junejo though he had been posted as the EDO health on Wednesday and he assumed the charge on Thursday.
He has been sitting in the office of district coordinator of the National Programme for Family Planning and Healthcare. The EDO sent a communication to the Sindh secretary apprising him about facts.
Mr Memon was earlier sent on forced leave on April 1, 2004 following a tussle between Dr Irfan Gul Magsi, then Sindh minister for Auqaf and Naeem Ishtiaq, then Sindh Minister health.
Mr Junejo, a taluka health officer (rural), was given additional charge of the EDO health in last June 2004 after the city was hit by water contamination crisis and then EDO health Dr Agha Tariq was booked in a criminal case. Thus he had to leave the charge.
