Cerebral malaria epidemic in Gujrat

GUJRAT, March 30: Cerebral malaria has become an epidemic as the local municipality have failed to stop the growth of mosquitoes.

It has reportedly spread in the city and its outskirts while Gujrat, Lalamusa and Kharian are the worst affected cities.

Hospital sources told Dawn on Saturday that around 150 to 200 patients of cerebral malaria have been visiting hospitals, basic health units, rural health centres and private clinics every day.

When contacted, a senior health department official said the malaria departments of Gujrat and Kharian were responsible for the situation.

He said the malaria department officials have not yet started spraying insecticides.
