Multan areas without water

MULTAN, April 8: Residents of several areas in the city continued to suffer on Monday as Mepco did not restore electricity supply to the Wasa tubewells.

Mumtazabad, Shah Rukn-i-Alam Colony, Lahori Gate, Bagh Lange Khan, New Central Jail, Humayun Road and adjoining areas have been without portable water supply since Saturday.

Mepco had on Saturday disconnected the electricity supply to Wasa tubewells and disposal pumps for non-payment of bills. Power supply to the disposal pumps was restored later.

When contacted, Wasa Managing Director Aashiq Chaudhry said that the agency has no funds to pay Rs30 million electricity bills.

He said that the government had been paying the Wasa’s electricity bills for the last couple of years. The government has not made the payment this year for reasons known to authorities concerned, he said.

The electricity supply to the tubewells would be restored soon as Wasa was holding negotiations with Mepco in this regard, he said.
