HYDERABAD: Judge to probe death of MPA’s husband

HYDERABAD, Nov 8: The District and Sessions Judge of Jamshoro would conduct a judicial inquiry into the death of Abdul Aziz, the husband of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Asma Sherwani, on the directive of the Chief Justice of the Sind High Court on Thursday.

He would invite witnesses and the general public to record their statements. The inquiry will be conducted under section 22-A and 23-B(a) of Cr.PC.

He has been asked by the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, Justice Sabihuddn Ahmed, to conduct the inquiry either himself or through an additional district and sessions judge.

Under the directives of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Provincial Police Officer Asad Jehangir Khan had moved the Sindh Home Department for a judicial inquiry.

According to the DPO of Jamshoro, Attaullah Chandio, four policemen of Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), including inspector Qasan Ben, ASI Asim and two head constables were in custody of police while six officials of the Motorway Police have been included in the investigation.

He said that officers against whom charges are proved would be prosecuted as per law.

The DIG operations, Mazhar Sheikh, conducted the inquiry under directives of Sindh Home Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui.

When contacted on Tuesday, the DIG refused to share details of what he said ‘incident report’ which he had forwarded to the Sindh minister.

He said that the incident report could be considered as inquiry because it covered basic details of the incident.
