RAWALPINDI: 9 PML-N leaders granted bail, 2 sent to jail on remand

RAWALPINDI, June 15: The civil judge, Muhammad Iqbal Guraya, on Saturday accepted the bail application of the nine PML-N leaders who were booked by the police after they brought out Kashmir solidarity rally on Friday.

The nine leaders, who were booked under the maintenance of public order and section 144, included Zafar Ali Shah, Siddiqul Farooq, Shahid Riaz Satti, Muhammad Riaz Gujar, Dr Ayaz, Farooq Khattak, Muhmmad Zarif Raja, Raja Mehfooz and Syed Zaigham Ali Shah. In the same case, Special Judicial Magistrate Umar Farooq also sent Haji Pervez, the ex-deputy mayor of Rawalpindi, and Razzaq, a party activist, on 14-day judicial remand to Adiyala Jail.

While cases have also been registered against Tanveer Akhtar Sheikh and Mirza Mansoor Baig, the president and general secretary of PML-N Youth Wing, Rawalpindi respectively, Babar Awan and Maqbool Ahmmad Khan.

Zafar Ali Shah said in the history of the country no government had ever mishandled a Kashmir solidarity rally in such a brutal and inhuman way.

He said previously there was a consistency among the policies of the governments over the issue of Kashmir but Gen Musharraf had proved that he did not value the ongoing Kashmir struggle.

Mr Shah said more than 700 PML-N workers and activists were arrested and were sent to various police station. Many vehicles had also been impounded by the police which are still in police custody, he added.

He added the PML-N was the biggest party of the country and would continue its fight for the restoration of democracy.
