DADU: Insanitary conditions blight Sehwan

DADU, Jan 20 Owing to the failure of drainage and water supply system in Sehwan, residents of the town and visitors are facing immense hardships.

Drains are overflowing in Bhatti, Khoso, Subzawari and Makrani Mohallas, around the shrine of Bodolo Bahar and New Bus Stand. Garbage is strewn across the main road of the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

Abdul Rauf, resident of Makrani Mohalla, told Dawn that they were paying all the relevant taxes to the taluka municipal administration regularly but the TMA officials were not paying attention to improve the drainage and water supply system.

Gulab Khan, a resident of Bhatti Mohalla, said that since last eight days this part of the town was not getting water.

A devotee of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Nabi Bux Barejo, who came from Kotri, said that he was facing difficulty in getting drinking water.

He said that officials of Auqaf were not paying attention to supply of drinking water and facility of drainage system around the shrine.

A shopkeeper, Ghulam Qadir Otho, said that encroachments on roads around the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar were creating problems for devotees. He demanded beautification plan for Sehwan town.

Manager Auqaf Karim Bux Panhwar said that encroachments were a major problem for devotees. He said that when Auqaf Administration was removing encroachments, political persons stopped the anti-encroachment drive.

TMO Sehwan Abdul Sattar Qureshi said it was a big town and there were no sufficient funds hence people were facing drainage and water supply problems. He said that drainage system was 12-years-old, which should be reconstructed.
