LARKANA: Villagers block road in protest: Power failure
LARKANA, June 21: A large number of villagers, mostly belonging to the Agani village, blocked the Naudero-Larkana road on Friday to protest against the incessant power failure.
The protesters chanted slogans against Wapda and Hesco.
They tried to stop a goods train, which was headed for Sukkur. When its engineer did not stop it and kept on going, they started pelting stones as a result of which he was injured.
Soon the DSP, Saddar Ghulam Nabi Keerio, arrived on the spot and assured the villagers that justice would be provided.
Cases were registered against the unknown villagers at the Dhamrah police station for pelting stones on the goods train, and for blocking the road.
TWO KILLED: A man, Mahar Ali (60), and his son, Ghulam Abbas (25), were gunned down by five armed men in Shahdadkot when the two were returning from a hearing in the court of the Civil Judge, Shahdatkot, on Friday.
Both the victims belonged to the Tilan Khan Magsi village.
An old enmity was stated to be the reason behind their killing.
GROWERS: Growers belonging to the Arzi Bhutto village and other villages blocked the highway at the Arzi Bhutto point to protest against the acute shortage of water in the Sujawal branch of the Shahdadkot minor.
The Taluka Nazim, Dr Ayaz Tunio, arrived at the spot and asked them to hold talks with the irrigation officials for the solution of their problems.
JSM: A large number of activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) staged a hunger strike in the Jinnah Bagh, Larkana, to protest against the government scheme of registering illegal immigrants.
The JSM leader maintained that the scheme was yet another conspiracy to turn the indigenous population of Sindh into a minority, and the registration of Bengalis, Afghans, Burmese and other nationals present in Sindh province was aimed at depriving the people of Sindh of their genuine rights.
PROTEST: A large number of residents of Shaikh Zayed Colony, Lateefabad, Ghareebabad and other nearby areas continued their protest against the land-grabbing mafia.
The protesters warned to take out a rally on June 23 if their demands were not met.
