SUKKUR: If summer is near, can outages be far behind
SUKKUR, March 5 With the advent of summer, Hesco has resumed unannounced and prolonged electricity loadshedding throughout upper Sindh, including Sukkur, Rohri, Pano Akil, Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo, Kandhkot, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Shikarpur.
Eight to 10 hours of loadshedding on daily basis have created difficulties for people.
When this correspondent contacted the local grid station, an official said that power supply was being suspended after every four hours on the directives of Hesco`s Regional Control Centre (RCC) Jamshoro.
When the regional control centre was contacted, an official came up with the reply that power supply was being cut by the Power Dispatch Centre (PDC) Jamshoro.
When the PDC was contacted, an official, Sarwar, said that power supply was being suspended by the Regional Control Centre, and added that share of shortfall given to the PDC was 150 mega watts but the share of shortfall given to the RCC was not known.
On Thursday, Pepco director Tahir Bisharat Cheema told a private television channel that due to closure of two private power producing units, Pepco was facing a shortfall of 500 mega watts throughout the country.
He said that Pepco had distributed the shortfall among nine power distribution companies and the share for each company was about 55 mega watts.
Recently, a delegation of the Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry met the chief executive officer of Hesco in Sukkur. During the meeting, the delegation rejected the proposed increase in electricity tariff said that it would encourage power theft.
