HYDERABAD, March 16 The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture at a meeting here on Sunday evening criticised a statement of Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf about the construction of Kalabagh dam and demanded of the federal government to take action against the minister for raising a controversial issue.

It said that the minister had insulted the resolutions of the assemblies of three provinces which had rejected the dam proposal. The meeting urged the prime minister to take notice of the statement of the minister.

It demanded release of water downstream Kotri Barrage to save the Indus delta and urged the Sindh government to ensure procurement of wheat crop at the government rate of Rs950 per 40 kg at wheat procurement centres.

It also appealed to the government to provide certified cotton seed to cotton growers.

Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah presided over the meeting which was attended by Akhund Ghulam Mohammad Siddiqui, Mir Murad Ali Khan Talpur, Anwar Bachani, Mohammad Khan Sarejo and others.

AT Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has also condemned the announcement by the federal minister for water and power about the construction of Kalabagh dam.

He said in a statement that the statement of the minister was a conspiracy against the country.

UNIVERSITY The executive council of the Sindh University Teachers Association has expressed concern over deteriorating law and order situation at the campus and said that the university has been converted into “a torture house”.

It said in a statement that there was no sign of administration at the campus and the teachers, officers, employees and students were feeling unsafe.

The council appealed to the governor, who is also the chancellor of universities of Sindh, to intervene in the matter. It also appealed to the chief justice of the Sindh High Court to take suo motu notice of the murders, riots, corruption and injustices that were rampant in the university and appoint an inquiry committee to fix responsibility in this regard. It expressed sorrow over the killing of a university student, Fareed Khoso.

It pointed out that firing between different groups at the campus had become the order of the day while the police and the administration were acting as silent spectators.

It said that the `retired` officers working in the university were responsible for the prevailing situation at the campuses. It demanded removal of `retired` officers working in different universities.
