HYDERABAD: Historical buildings to be renovated: nazim
HYDERABAD, April 7 District nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil said on Tuesday that the district government had declared various historical buildings in Hyderabad as national heritage and efforts were being made to save them from destruction.
At a meeting with Mr Salahuddin, the member of the National Assembly from Hyderabad, the nazim said many buildings had already been renovated and restored to their original shapes.
He said Mr Salahuddin had got approved an amount of Rs100 million from the federal government for the repair and renovation work of Pakka Qilla.
The walls of the Pakka Qilla were in very bad shape and had fallen from many places, he said, adding that distortion of the historically important Qilla had badly affected the beauty of one of the most important roads of the city.
He said the fragile walls of the 100-year-old structure were very dangerous for people living near the Qilla and the people living along the walls were temporarily shifted to safer places in rainy seasons.
The nazim said a summary had been sent to Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah for allotting a plot for those whose houses would be affected by the repair work of the Pakka Qilla. Shifting of these people would cost Rs400 million, he added.
The nazim said a beautiful gate would be installed at the main entrance of the Pakka Qilla.
He said some other buildings, including Nawal Rai Market and Holmstead Hall, were also being renovated.
SINDHI LANGUAGE The district nazim has urged the people of Sindh to learn Sindhi language and strive for its promotion.
He was talking to Sindhi Language Authority chairperson Dr Fehmida Hussain and secretary Taj Joyo who called on him at his secretariat on Tuesday to discuss ways and means for the promotion of Sindhi language.
Ms Hussain informed the nazim that a 10-minute Sindhi language course had been started by the Radio Pakistan and language classes would be held in the Mehran Arts Council Latifabad and Hyderabad press club.
She invited employees of the district government to attend the three-month course and said no fees would be charged from them.
The nazim urged the people of Hyderabad to take advantage of the facility being provided by the SLA and offered full cooperation of the district government.
