CJP urged to take notice of peasant`s death

HYDERABAD, April 17 Activists of Sindh Hari Committee staged a demonstration here on Friday to condemn the death of a peasant, Walidad Khaskheli of Sanghar, outside Karachi Press Club during hunger strike in protest against excesses of a landlord.

They appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of his death and ensure registration of case against landlord Waryam Faqir Khaskheli, a Pakistan Muslim League-F leader and Khalifa of Pir Pagara.

They said that poor peasant was on hunger strike outside Karachi Pres Club due to excesses of the said landlord and died due to cardiac arrest a couple of days ago. They held the tyrant landlord responsible for his death.

They also condemned police for not arresting the landlord. They appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take notice of the case.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds The activists of Sindh Hari Committee observed token hunger strike outside press club here on Friday, demanding justice to the heirs of Walidad Khaskheli.

They said that owing to excesses of the landlord Faqir Waryam Khaskheli, deceased peasant Walidad Khaskheli was compelled to observe hunger strike in Karachi for getting justice, where he died.

After Mr Walidad`s death, Karachi police registered a case under section 315 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Waryam Faqir and his associates on the complaint of Madad Ali, the nephew of the deceased.

Mirpurkhas DPO Munir Ahmed Shaikh has launched an inquiry into the cases and counter cases lodged against each other by Faqir Waryam Khaskheli and the sons and relatives of Walidad Khaskheli over a land dispute.

Meanwhile, Madad Ali has warned that if the village land was not granted to the villagers, they would again go to Karachi and stage a sit-in outside the press club there.
