Quetta to have squash facility

ISLAMABAD, April 29 The Governor of Balochistan, Zulfiqar Magsi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a `championship court`, at the Ayub Stadium, Quetta`s squash complex.

An official of the Pakistan Squash Federation told Dawn that the new squash stadium would cost Rs6 million. “The stadium will be completed within a short span of six months. The squash complex is an effort to take the game to the grass-roots level. The step is part of the PSF youth development plan 2011.”

The Balochistan governor, he said, had announced a grant of Rs1.5 million for the construction of the stadium whereas PSF would bear the expenditure up to Rs4.5 million.

The official pointed out “The project is aimed at bringing the international Professional Squash Association`s sanctioned tournaments to the provincial capital and the youth development academy is already functioning in Quetta where 25 junior players are undergoing development training.”

“The PSF is monitoring the youth programme in coordination with the Balochistan Squash Association,” the official concluded.
