Govt pursuing policies of Musharraf: JI
HYDERABAD, May 6 Criticizing the US for creating problems in Pakistan, Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan has called for launching a struggle against the US.
Talking to journalists at 'meet the press programme' at the press club here on Wednesday, he said that people in last elections, rejected the policies of Pervez Musharraf but they were still being pursued by the present government. The PPP government had failed to deliver and whatever prime minister announced on the floor of Parliament could not be implemented, he said citing the example of failure in restoring students unions. Likewise, Musharraf's foreign policies were being followed wherein drone attacks continue unabated which so far, had killed some 900 people and maimed hundreds of others, said Munawar Hassan. He termed these 'as attacks on the independence and sovereignty'.
The Chief of Air Staff said that the Air force was capable of stopping these attacks but what why it was being delayed was yet not known, he said.
He felt aghast at not implementing the decisions taken by the Parliament. He said that the US and Nato lost war in Afghanistan despite reinforcements.
The writ of the government was totally absent with provision of roti, kapra aur makaan proving a hoax, said the Ameer. Non-state actors were active in health, education and security, JI chief said as people prefer hiring private guards for security because of the non-existent state security.
'Rulers are tuned to the dictates of the IMF leaving future generations buried deep down into the debt, he said.
Syed Munawar Hassan said that President Asif Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif could bail the country out of financial crisis if they bring back, only half of the money they had stacked in foreign banks.
He frowned at spending Rs50 million per month from the national exchequer on 62 ministers and 15 others with an equal status, while President spends millions on dozens of people who accompany him on foreign tours.
The law and order situation, he said, had worsened so much so that none of the countries were ready to send even their cricketers here. Our foreign office failed to summon the ambassador of neighboring country towards which the interior ministry had pointed for trying to destabilize Pakistan.
Perhaps, the track record of Army restrained public from supporting its operations in tribal areas and the NWFP, he said.
He regretted the massacre of Pakhtoons in the NWFP even though the ANP was in power. Slamming the US President statement of destroying the Pakhtoon belt, he reminded him to study the case of British Empire and the USSR for making similar bids, way back.
Calling America an enemy of Muslims and Islam, he cited the US policies regarding Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and Kashmir. Quoting a survey report, he said that majority of Muslims were against America and its policies.
He said peace in Balochistan depends on the arrest of murderers of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and their three leaders as Baloch people were not ready to accept parliamentary bodies like Shujaat Hussain's committee. He pleaded to continue mega projects in Balochistan and wondered as to why PPP wanted other parties to join the government when it was in majority.
He said the MQM had raised the bogey of Talibanization which was just a hoax and aimed at creating ethnic riots. He referred to the murder of 37 innocent people in Karachi on May 29 and 30.
He said people responsible for May 12 carnage and April 9 killings were identifiable but no action had been taken against them, so far. He likened Hamid Karzai and Asif Zardari to two sides of the same coin and questioned as to why Zardari was not taking action against the killers of his wife.
