Checkposts on Swat-Chitral border sought
CHITRAL, May 7 Members of the district council have demanded of the government to establish checkposts of district border force and Chitral police at all the seven passes of the Sheshi Koh valley, which connect Chitral with troubled Swat and Dir districts.
A resolution to this effect was presented in a session of the council by Sohrab Khan, nazim union council Sheshi Koh, that the valley was very sensitive having borders with Swat, Dir and Afghanistan.
The resolution demanded restoration of the district border force checkpost and equipping the force with sophisticated arms to check the infiltrators effectively. The government was also urged to increase the number of Chitral police checkposts in the area and provide them with transport, wireless telephone and modern weapons.
Presided over by convener Sultan Shah, the house members urged effective vigilance on the border areas of Arandu, Lowari Top and Baroghil to check infiltration. The council took up the alleged embezzlement and misappropriation of funds in different departments pointed out by various members and the convener constituted committees to probe the allegations.
Earlier, the house passed the revised budget of the district government for the remaining fiscal year with small alterations, which was presented in the house on Wednesday by the district nazim.
