HYDERABAD: Conviction of Benazir flayed
HYDERABAD, July 15: Scores of the activists of the PPP, cultural wing, staged an one-hour sit-in and burnt tyres on Hyderabad-Badin road here on Monday to protest the court verdict against their party’s chairperson, Benazir Bhutto.
The protesters carried banners, placards, party flags and portraits of Benazir Bhutto and raised slogans in her favour and against President Gen Pervez Musharraf and his military government.
Speaking on the occasion, the PPP leader, Mohammad Amin Lakho, said that Gen Musharraf had virtually imposed a ban on the return of Bhutto who posed a threat to his dictatorship.
He said in order to perpetuate their rule, the rulers had murdered democracy with a view to imposing presidential form of government in the country.
The others who spoke at the rally included Abdul Aziz Halepoto, Apa Nasim Ali Akbar, Zulekha Sehto and Rafique Panhwar.
PH.D SEMINAR: Research scholar Abdul Hayee Abro gave presentation of his research work on the “Legal Maxims in Hanafi Law: Origin and Development a Comparative Study” for Ph.D degree at a seminar held at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, on Monday.
Mr Abro said his research work comprised of four chapters with a number of sub-sections.
The first chapter discusses the nature of legal maxims and related issues while in the second chapter, the principles related to legal maxims have been discussed. The third chapter contains a brief history of the origin and development of legal maxim. In the fourth chapter, the principles related to legal maxims have been discussed.
Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who presided over the seminar, appreciated the research work and congratulated the scholar on his successful presentation.
REFRESHER COURSE: The Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMCS), University of Sindh, Jamshoro, launched a two-week refresher course on computer skills and management for the managerial staff of the university on Monday.
The objectives of the refresher course are to train the managerial staff to help in computerization of all sections of the university and connect the departments at old and new campuses of the university.
About 60 staff members are attending the course.
AWARD: A meeting of the awards committee, Pakistan Academy of Letters, for the award of best book on “Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and Sufism” during 1998 to 2001, was held the other day at the office of the vice chancellor of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro.
The meeting, after discussions regarding published works of various scholars on Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and Sufism, unanimously decided to give the award to eminent scholar, Dr N.A. Baloch for his published work.
