Abbas seizes tennis crown

KARACHI, Aug 19 Unseeded Ghulam Abbas Panju claimed men's singles crown when he overcame fighting fifth seed Omer Shahid in a gruelling three-set final of the Sindh Ranking Tennis Tournament at the PN Karsaz courts on Wednesday.

The two had made it to the final after upsetting the top two seeds. Abbas sprang a surprise when he beat top seed Vinod Das in the semis while Omer eliminated second seed M. Abdul Saeed earlier.

Abbas recovered from a set down to carve out a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over his opponent.

The ladies' singles title went to Eman Malik who blanked Maheen Dada 6-0, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Adil Kohari claimed a double crown capturing boys' under-15 singles and juniors double titles. His victim in the singles was Talha Zubair Surmawala who suffered a 2-6, 1-6 defeat. He later teamed up with Abdul Rehman to beat Omer Shahid and Mustafa Zaidi 7-5, 6-4 for the doubles title.

Mustafa Zaidi landed the juniors' under-17 title inflicting a 7-5, 6-4 defeat on Adil Kohari.

Final results

Boys' under-15 singles Adil Kohari bt Talha Zubair Surmawala 6-2, 6-1.

Juniors' under-17 singles Mustafa Zaidi bt Adil Kohari 7-5, 6-4.

Juniors' doubles Abdul Rehman and Adil Kohari bt Omer Shahid and Mustafa Zaidi 7-5, 6-4.

Ladies singles Eman Malik bt Maheen Dada 6-0, 6-0.

Men's singles Ghulam Abbas Panju bt Omer Shahid 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.—
